SAWSAN QUMSIEH

The surviving miracle, born in the 7th month of pregnancy, Sawsan had almost lost her life. Back in 1970, in the 17th of January, her mother had to deliver her sooner than expected where she struggled to cling to her dear life, and a timely divine intervention looked after her, leaving her destined to be a woman of a message and inspiration to the world. She turned out to be an athlete and an artist, a combination that made her one of a kind. Back in her school days, she was active in all athletic festivals arranged by her school where she was particularly professional in gymnastics. Graduating with a bachelor degree of physical education from the University of Jordan, Sawsan then sought a position of a teacher at a local school in Palestine where she taught sports. She also developed a passion of ballet dancing and decided afterwards to start offering training in ballet, fitness, and overall gymnastics. Sawsan is a Palestinian artist, and living in the West Bank with all its conflicts and tragedies thus left a clear mark on her paintings. Most of what she drew portrayed the reality of an occupied territory, a situation not far from what she has lived through.

Her passion

However, her passion for art was always greater, and thus she decided to delve deeper into the world of colors. At this phase of her life, fate played its role in somehow reinforcing this passion by encountering a very unpleasant situation. At the age of 29, Sawsan went through a huge transformation in her life, where she had to suddenly battle with a malignant breast cancer, leaving her in total wreckage. There was only two roads lying ahead of her back at the time, one of despair and surrender, and one of courage and started anew. Choosing to start from scratch and clinging to the world of art as if it was her only savior, Sawsan had pushed through it very hard. She recovered and rose above it all. In painting she saw a mean of expression to all the pain and struggle she was put through . She saw her challenge as an opportunity to create a whole different dimension, a part of her that she never knew. She painted her scars and loss, she saw her brush bleeding roses, she opened the cage of mind, and birds thereafter flew. There was no barrier to her imagination as she unleashed her inner call. She saw her inside on canvas, and in every painting she poured out her soul. This has become Sawsan’s path, delving in art and love, she gave it her all.

Her goal

Throughout the past 20 years, Sawsan participated in locally exhibitions, where she focused mostly on fine art paintings. She dived into all types of paintings, however she recently found an increasing passion towards the abstract painting that is somehow mixed with a wave of realism.

Now she is preparing to spread her art in a larger scale aiming to target more audience around the world, where her aim mission is to portray the pain and suffering of all those out there, and to spread love, peace, and beauty all of over the world.
